Meet the dynamic duo, Ava and Michèle, the heartbeat behind Gurnard Press Bistro.
Ava’s earliest memories are entwined with helping her Nanny, Michèle, with catering events—cooking, planning, and serving. For the pair, the hospitality business is more than a profession; it’s a legacy. So, when the opportunity to take over the cafe arose, they knew it was the perfect way to continue a business they cherished—one that was dearly missed by locals and a vital part of the community.
Ava and Michèle have breathed new life into the space, turning it into more than just a cafe. It’s now a hub for community events, quiz nights, and fundraising for charities.
Here you’ll experience a warm, friendly, and professional environment. The menu boasts homemade cakes, hearty breakfasts, and satisfying lunches. The goal is simple but profound: to create a home away from home for their valued customers. It’s a sanctuary where people can unwind, relax, and momentarily forget the challenges of the outside world.

Ava explains that customers love the fact that they can savour a cup of Jasper’s Coffee while occasionally catching the aroma of beans being roasted right nearby. The roastery’s local presence becomes a unique selling point—after all, you can’t get more local than that!

Welcome to our cheerful and cosy bistro, where you can unwind in a warm and inviting atmosphere. Enjoy a delightful array of delicious dishes, all prepared with the finest ingredients and much love.
Michele
Michele- A professional chef, Food safety consultant, Restaurateur, Nutritionist, and Chef trainer. Michele runs the much-loved Four Seasons Cookery Academy.
AVA
Professional chef, Personal license holder, Hospitality and Customer service trainer, Events organiser/manager, and Cookery workshop leader.
ANNA
She produces all of our delicious home bakes and our Food prep, as well as covering front of house and our Service Kitchen. She has a degree (BA Hons) in Commercial Music; is a practitioner with Independent Arts - delivering music for Lung Health and Singing for Wellbeing.
JAIMIE
‘sunshine’ Jaimie. We are so fortunate to have this extremely talented lady with us until September - when she will be on her travels again, returning to Australia. Having been brought up on the Island since the age of 2, Jaimie got the travel bug a few years ago and has travelled extensively.
